Bejeweled Twist (Popcap)

Bejeweled has been around the casual circuit for many a year and is probably only exceeded in popularity by Tetris. As with Tetris, Bejeweled needs to evolve. Sure there was Bejeweled 2 but this was just a graphical revamp befitting it's sequel status. Bejeweled Twist, however, is a new take for the series on the match 3 genre. Rather than switching two adjacent jewels, groups of 4 jewels are rotated clockwise. The idea once again is to match three or more like coloured jewels. Forming groups of more than 3 jewels, preferably in a funky shape will award special jewels on the game board. These range from the standard exploding jewel to the magnificent lightning jewel.B The graphics are decent as always from Popcap. In fact if you've ever played a Popcap mobile game then you should know what to expect. The gameplay is great and the depth of modes and challenges is amazing. Other developers will try and string out the longevity of the game in a drawn out affair of steadily unlocking small advance in the game. Popcap's approach to longevity is slightly different with new features and challenges drawing you in like nothing else. There are four modes which are gradually unlocked as you progress through Classic mode. The challenge mode is where the game will take hold of you. There are probably 100 or so challenges split across 10 different levels. Some will require reaching a score within a time limit and others can be completed only by making x amount of lightning jewels. The game is incredibly addictive and the challenge mode allows for short yet fulfilling game time. If you want a more casual approach, try Zen mode where you can never die but match jewels to your heart's content. Bejeweled Twist is a great game and manages to rejuvenate the Bejeweled series. While the controls are adequate, the only feature missing is being able to rotate the jewels anti-clockwise.
